WAYLAND
If you want to run the very latest Wayland and Weston code along with Libinput on an Ubuntu system, it's now increasingly easy.

Wayland/Weston remains available within the Ubuntu package archive, but the versions tend to be out of date. Former Canonical employee Bryce Harrington, who has since been working for Samsung's Open-Source Group on Wayland, has been maintaining daily builds of Wayland, Weston, and Libinput for Ubuntu. These packages also are compatible with XWayland and using Ubuntu's GNOME Session under Wayland.

You can get these Wayland packages in their latest daily Git state via the Wayland daily builds PPA. This PPA isn't exactly brand new, but it's been restored after the recent falling out due to the Wayland Protocols change.
