It's been a year since CentOS Linux 7 last saw a new image released but that's now changed today with putting out CentOS 7 1611 to succeed last year's 1511 images.

CentOS Linux 7 1611 is derived from Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7.3. As covered earlier on Phoronix, Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7.3 adds new capabilities for Linux containers and Internet of Things (IoT), lightweight tunnels support for better networking performance, better support for non-volatile memory devices, improvements for Parallel NFS support, SELinux updates, reliability improvements, and much more. The IoT-related improvements is support for Bluetooth LE communication and kernel support for the Controller Area Network bus (CANbus) protocol to communicate with industrial controllers.

Those interested in all the details can see the CentOS 7 release notes and today's official announcement with links for the new CentOS 7 x86_64 images.
