While WattOS R4 is derived from Ubuntu 11.04, in some of the tests the performance of this lightweight distribution was worse off than mainline Ubuntu on these older PCs for what this niche distribution is targeting. Perhaps a six-year old laptop is still too new for WattOS? Both distributions are based on the 2.6.38 kernel, the EXT4 file-system, GCC 4.5.2, etc, yet Ubuntu 11.04 pulls ahead of this derivative.
