First up was the basic OpenArena open-source game. For the most part the graphics cards on the open-source AMD driver in the latest state are seeing around 75% or better the performance of the closed-source Catalyst driver and for some it's closer to 80%+. When comparing the open-source driver configurations, the tested AMD GPUs seem to benefit from the newest code (Linux 3.17 + Mesa 10.4-dev) even for the aging Radeon HD 4870.

Finally the RadeonSI Gallium3D driver that provides the open-source 3D support for the HD 7000 series and newer is beginning to outperform the Radeon HD 6870 on the mature R600g driver.

World of Padman is the last basic OpenGL test for this article before getting to more beefier results. Padman shows the open-source drivers as still improving and for the newer GCN GPUs is running at over 80% the speed of Catalyst when using open-source driver code.
