6-Way Linux Desktop 2D/3D Performance Comparison On Ubuntu 14.04 LTS

With the Qt4 windowed testing via QGears2, Xfce and the GNOME Shell tended to do the best while the default Unity 7 desktop with Compiz is now also a good performer compared to older Ubuntu Linux releases where the Unity performance was more troublesome.

With the x11perf micro-benchmarks, the results tended to be rather mixed but overall the lightweight Xfce, LXDE, and Openbox environments were doing the best in this 2D benchmark.
