When running the same test but without enforcing any sync/fsync calls, the Core 2 Duo netbook was still 12% faster without using home encryption.

For the Intel Sandy Bridge notebook with an SSD, there is really no measurable performance impact to using an encrypted home directory. For the older Core 2 Duo notebook with a hard drive, for the Flexible I/O Tester there was a measurable performance loss.

Dbench using 12 disk clients was 11% faster without home encryption on the Lenovo ThinkPad T61.
