Taking ZFS For A Test Drive On Ubuntu 16.04 LTS
There wasn't much difference in the FS-Mark runs during this testing with the exception of the multi-threaded sub-test where EXT4 was strangely performing much faster than the three other file-systems. Ignoring that, the out-of-tree ZFS on Linux was performing right in line with the other mainline Linux file-systems.
For BlogBench's read test, Btrfs and XFS were significantly faster than EXT4 and ZFS.
For BlogBench writes, EXT4 turned out to be the fastest.
Under Dbench with multiple clients, ZFS, EXT4, and XFS performed close to the same while Btrfs was in the last position.
Well, those are the initial numbers for ZFS versus the common Linux file-system competition when it comes to testing the ZFS Ubuntu 16.04 support on a single, consumer M.2 SSD. Stay tuned for next week when running some more interesting Linux file-system benchmarks on higher-performing SSDs in RAID.
