Motherboard Layout:

The Super Micro C2SBX+ is an ATX motherboard designed around the Intel X48 (Bearlake X) Chipset. This motherboard supports Intel Core 2 LGA-775 processors up to and including the latest Intel Core 2 Quad 45nm processors with a 1600MHz FSB. Other key features include DDR3 and dual PCI Express 2.0 slots. The C2SBX+ supports four DDR3 DIMMs. If using DDR3-1333/1066/800MHz memory the chipset supports up to 8GB, or 4GB if using DDR3-1600MHz XMP memory. Situated between the DDR3 memory slots and the edge of the PCB on this motherboard is the 24-pin power and FDD connectors. In the upper right corner of the motherboard are a fan connector and Winbond W83627DHG I/O ASIC.

Around the Intel ICH9R Southbridge are the six Serial ATA connectors, one IDE ATA-100 connector, two USB 2.0 headers, two USB 2.0 connectors, two IEEE-1934a Firewire headers, and the front panel header. This isn't our first time seeing a type-A USB 2.0 connector on this side of the motherboard, but it's certainly rare. These connectors can be handy for some internal USB devices instead of needing to route the cable through an expansion slot and to one at the rear I/O panel. It's also handy if you -- like us -- just run your motherboard in an open-air setup with no chassis. The six Serial ATA connectors are version 2.0 compliant and they are rotated 90 degrees on the motherboard and positioned along the edge of the PCB. This SATA connector orientation can be helpful depending upon the chassis design.

Found in this area of the motherboard is the Intel ICH9R Southbridge, Intel PXH-V, ITE 8213 IDE ASIC, and Texas Instruments TSB43AB22/A Firewire controller. The ICH9R provides 12 USB 2.0 ports, six PCI Express x1 channels, Gigabit Ethernet, HD Audio, Quiet System Technology, Matrix Storage Technology, and Turbo Memory. The Intel PXH-V is used for providing the PCI-X interfaces on this motherboard. Covering the ICH9R and PXH-V are aluminum heatsinks of similar size for passive cooling.
