To not much surprise, there isn't much of a performance difference between SteamOS and Ubuntu 13.10. When using the NVIDIA proprietary driver, the graphics performance is close to the same speed across platforms. Just as the recent tests showed SteamOS competing with Windows 8.1 Pro x64 when using the NVIDIA binary drivers, the Ubuntu 13.10 performance is also close to the same in OpenGL performance. While the NVIDIA driver versions tested are different, the performance is roughly the same when using the modern driver releases.
