For those curious how AMD's RadeonSI Gallium3D driver for GCN GPUs has evolved, here are benchmarks with two graphics cards showing how the RadeonSI Mesa performance has evolved since Mesa 11.1 going back to late 2015.

Tested in this article were the Git branches of Mesa 11.1, 11.2, 12.0, 13.0, 17.0, and master, which yielded Mesa 11.1.4, 11.2.2, 12.0.6, 13.0.5, 17.0.1, and 17.1-dev. The highest supported version of AMDGPU LLVM was used with each Mesa branch. The graphics cards tested for this article were the Radeon R9 285 and Radeon R9 Fury.

With these six versions of Mesa and two graphics cards, a variety of OpenGL benchmarks were run on this article in a fully-automated and reproducible manner using the Phoronix Test Suite benchmarking software. The Linux 4.11 development kernel was running on this system during testing and aside from swapping out the Mesa versions, all other components remained the same.
