There wasn't much change out of x264 and Hiemno.

With the ebizzy test that tries to mirror server workload performance, Ubuntu 18.04 LTS was able to recover some of the performance loss from the initial Spectre/Meltdown mitigation found with the updated Ubuntu 16.04 stack.

The time to compile code has become slower over the years with more optimizations and features being added to GCC.

While in cases like AOBench, the newer compiler optimizations can be thanked for yielding faster performance of the resulting binary.

Or FLAC audio encoding on this Intel laptop appears slightly faster.
