Radeon Linux 4.6 + Mesa 11.3 vs. NVIDIA Linux Performance & Perf-Per-Watt

First up are the 1080p results followed by 4K on the later pages (or further down the page if you are a premium member!).

Unfortunately, BioShock Infinite was one of the games where the R9 Fury / R9 290 / R9 285 / R7 260X are currently running into major problems. Besides taking seemingly forever to compile the shaders with an incredibly long game load process, the results for these graphics cards were incredibly low and much lower than our past tests. Only the R7 370 and R9 270X were working out fine on this Linux 4.6 + Mesa 11.3-dev stack. So not too much to see with this game...

DiRT Showdown was the second (and only other) game running into similar issues with the R9 Fury / R9 290 / R9 285 / R7 260X with this setup.... The R9 270X and R7 370 were at least running appropriately for this game.

Counter-Strike: Global Offensive isn't too demanding on today's graphics cards at 1080p, but here are those numbers for comparison to older GPUs. The 4K results are later in this article. While the data among the higher-end graphics cards isn't really interesting, these results show there still are performance issues to address with the RadeonSI Gallium3D driver. With the GCN GPUs, their performance topped out much lower than they should be... The R9 Fury was stuck to the same performance level as the R9 290, which was well lower than even the GTX 760 and GTX 950... Counter-Strike: Global Offensive is certainly playable on AMDGPU/Radeon + RadeonSI, but the performance isn't as good as it should be with properly functioning drivers.

So looking at the performance-per-Watt for this game and the less than ideal open-source AMD driver performance, the R9 Fury was running among the Kepler and Maxwell GPUs while the other GCN GPUs were much less interesting.
