Starting with the 2GB file compression test using Gzip, the Ubuntu mobile distributions were in front. It took 367 seconds for Moblin V2 Alpha 2 to compress this sample file where with Ubuntu MID/NR it took 330~333 seconds. Worth pointing out though is that many debugging options are enabled on the development releases of Moblin, which may account for some of this difference.

When it came time to using FFmpeg 0.5 to encode a sample video file, the three distributions performed about the same but the fastest was Ubuntu MID 9.04 Beta with Ubuntu Netbook Remix 9.04 Beta immediately behind the Mobile Internet Device distribution. Moblin V2 Alpha 2 was about two seconds slower.

Moblin V2 Alpha 2 crept into second place with its file encryption performance through GnuPG, while Ubuntu Netbook Remix 9.04 Beta fell into third. Ubuntu MID 9.04 Beta was faster than Moblin V2 by about 10 seconds.
