Apple's Late-2016 MacBook Pro Is Still A Wreck With Linux
Besides the macOS vs. Linux OpenGL tests with the Radeon graphics, I also ran a few CPU and disk tests for curiosity sake.
As we found with the MacBook Air test with High Sierra, macOS 10.13 with its switch to the new APFS file-system rather than HFS+ does show a big boost in SQLite performance. But it's too fast that at least in some scenarios APFS isn't necessarily fsync'ing properly.
The BlogBench disk benchmark was faster for reads with macOS 10.13.1 on APFS but much better write performance with EXT4 on Ubuntu 17.10.
Ubuntu 17.10 was much faster with the CompileBench disk benchmark than macOS 10.13.1 built with Xcode's Clang.
In the simple fsync-bound PostMark disk test, Ubuntu 17.10 was nearly twice as fast as macOS High Sierra.
