First up was NASA's NAS Parallel Benchmarks (NPB) with the embarrassingly parallel test.

The NPB EP.C test was doing well up to eight cores when its results started to fall. Hyper Threading was of benefit. Going from eight to sixteen threads with Intel HT led to the performance going up by 65%.

John The Ripper was scaling well through the eight physical cores.

The VP8 libvpx video encoding performance actually dropped off after seven cores and was leading to lower performance figures.
