Himeno under WSL / VirtualBox was noticeably slower than with the native Linux distributions, it looks like due to AVX detection issues.

The timed compilation performance with Apache was noticeably slower when running off the Windows hosts, perhaps due to the slower I/O.

While the timed kernel compilation performance with VirtualBox was close to the Ubuntu 16.04.2 LTS results while the slower I/O with WSL appears to hurt its kernel compilation speed.

The C-Ray multi-threaded ray-tracer is another test where VirtualBox does rather poorly while Windows 10 with VirtualBox is much slower than using WSL.

WSL was also performing well with the single-threaded FLAC audio encoding benchmark.

And with LAME MP3 encoding, using WSL Ubuntu 16.04 was as fast as the bare metal install.
