Steam Play (Proton) games have been behaving fine as well when run under XWayland with the GNOME Wayland session. As noted at the end of last year there has also been work on native Wayland support for Wine but that work hasn't yet been merged and is still in early form.

Unigine previously exposed oddities running under XWayland but those shortcomings were not exhibited in this latest testing.

The latest Radeon Linux gaming performance basically comes out comparable whether run on the GNOME X.Org or Wayland session thanks to prior performance issues being addressed with XWayland. Thus for Ubuntu 21.04 as far as Radeon gaming is concerned, it should be in good shape with (X)Wayland while NVIDIA proprietary driver users will continue to see the X.Org session by default.
