The TSCP chess benchmark performance improved slightly when LTO'ed.

The Stockfish chess benchmark meanwhile improved more with the whole-program option enabled.

The Himeno pressure solver was one of the few cases where LTO led to slightly worse performance.

Making use of link-time optimizations does lead to significantly longer compile times.
