The Nexuiz performance with PC-BSD 9.1 on the slightly older NVIDIA binary driver was still in line with Ubuntu Linux 13.10 even when BSD was having to deal with its Linux compatibility layer.

The Unigine Sanctuary performance for PC-BSD/FreeBSD 9.1 was right in line with Ubuntu 13.10 and Windows 8 Pro on the same hardware and for all three tested graphics cards. While FreeBSD is not normally classified as a gaming operating system, its performance can be competitive with Linux and Windows.
