Btrfs RAID: Built-In/Native RAID vs. Mdadm
For the final FS-Mark test, the native Btrfs RAID array was faster at all standard levels compared to the mdadm-based array.
The native Btrfs RAID array was faster with IOzone's 8GB write test.
Lastly, Compile Bench was faster across the board with the native Btrfs RAID array.
The native Btrfs RAID array of four Intel solid-state drives was generally faster than the mdadm array with Btrfs atop it, but in particular for some of the FIO read tests is where the mdadm configuration ended up being faster than Btrfs built-in RAID 0/1/5/6/10 support. Our next Linux RAID testing from this setup will be a comparison of various Linux file-systems off Linux 3.18 using mdadm.
