Out of the gates is John The Ripper crypto tests. It was surprising to see that FreeBSD was actually faster than Ubuntu and CentOS. (DragonFly and openSUSE had troubles building John The Ripper due to OpenSSL header changes.) FreeBSD with Clang 6.0 was faster than the Linux distributions while GCC 7.3 on FreeBSD 12.0-ALPHA1 had a slight lead over the Linux distributions but it was a very slim margin.

In the DES test with John The Ripper, the results were incredibly close.

FreeBSD 12.0-ALPHA1 had wins by a wider margin with GCC 7.3 when running the TTSIOD 3D Renderer on the CPU.

With x265 it ran fine on all of the tested operating systems except for CentOS 7 due to out-of-date dependencies and FreeBSD 12.0-ALPHA1 this time came out as offering the fastest video encode performance over the Linux distributions.
