Benchmarks: FreeBSD 13 vs. NetBSD 9.2 vs. OpenBSD 7 vs. DragonFlyBSD 6 vs. Linux

Even the Linux distributions were performing better than the BSDs out-of-the-box when it came to the Python scripting performance. Clear Linux generally led among the Linux distributions for the best Python speed.

Clear Linux also commanded a strong lead in the PHP performance due to their optimized package build. DragonFlyBSD 6.0.1 at least delivered comparable performance here to CentOS Linux 8.

Below is a look at the geometric mean when taking all of the benchmarks that successfully ran across all eight tested operating systems. OpenBSD 7.0 was the slowest out of the box due to its default settings in the name of security (e.g. no HT) while DragonFlyBSD 6.0.1 / NetBSD 9.2 / FreeBSD 13.0 performance close to the same overall but behind CentOS and Ubuntu. Intel's Clear Linux was the fastest out-of-the-box with its many optimizations and default changes carried out in the name of delivering the greatest x86_64 performance potential.
