Curious about performance changes for AMDGPU-PRO 16.50, I ran some comparison tests to AMDGPU-PRO 16.40. For comparison I ran the drivers on a R9 285, R9 290, RX 460, RX 480, and R9 Fury. With those cards tested I ran into no problems with AMDGPU-PRO 16.50 while with my early press driver there was the aforementioned GCN 1.0 issues preventing tests on those older cards.
