The proprietary driver is about five times faster than the latest open-source Radeon driver code for the Nexuiz game.

When running the Warsow game, the lead of the Catalyst 11.8 driver expanded to more than seven times.

The Lightsmark OpenGL lighting benchmark was just shy of being five times faster than the R600 Gallium3D driver on the Radeon HD 4870 graphics card. There is also no real change in performance for this class of Radeon GPUs when using the Linux 3.1 kernel compared to Linux 3.0/2.6.39.
