With the open-source Unvanquished game that has a GL3 renderer and more advanced OpenGL functionality compared to most open-source game projects, the Mesa 9.3 performance dropped on the Radeon HD 4870 graphics card by more than 30%.

The Warsow game performance improved slightly out of the newest Mesa Git code.

When running the open-source Xonotic first person shooter that's one of the more demanding free software games, there's a performance drop when using low quality settings, leveled out performance with high quality settings, and slightly higher frame-rates when using the ultra quality settings.
