The first OpenCL workload hitting these graphics cards was the scientific Rodinia workload and using the Myocyte test. The main takeaway from this result is the performance of the AMD GPUs -- the HD 7950 and R9 270X did very poorly for this test but the Radeon R9 290 Hawaii was almost up to the speeds of the NVIDIA GeForce graphics cards under Ubuntu Linux.

With Rodinia's OpenCL Heartwall test, the numbers between AMD and NVIDIA were more in line with expectations. While the AMD Hawaii graphics cards have been popular for OpenCL/GPGPU purposes, the GTX 780 Ti for this workload was much faster than the Radeon R9 290.
