With all of the GpuTest results, Catalyst remained much faster than the open-source AMD driver code while with Catalyst 14.12 there was no marked change in performance. At least though the open-source driver code is gradually becoming faster.

While Catalyst 14.12 brought some performance improvements for newer discrete GCN GPUs in our other testing, for the AMD A10-7850K Kaveri system tested in this article the APU didn't show any Linux OpenGL performance improvements. In most tests though, Catalyst remained 30~40%+ faster than the open-source Linux driver code as of Linux 3.18 + Mesa 10.5-devel.
