Benchmarking these ten different CPU/APUs got started with the Rodinia scientific test and using the OpenMP CFD Solver sample. For this CPU-focused test, the A10-7850K ran faster than the Core i3 2120 and i3 4130 Intel CPUs and was about 5% faster than the AMD A10-6800K "Richland" APU. AMD advertises the A10-7850K as being comparable to the Core i5 4670K but for this heavy CPU test the i5 4670 (non-K) was about 14% faster than the highest-end Kaveri APU. Overclocking the A10-7850K from (3.7/4.0GHz) to 4.4GHz yielded a 7% performance increase for this test.

With other scientific workloads, Intel CPUs dominate over AMD's current offerings -- even the Core i3 CPUs outperform the A10-7850K and eight-core AMD FX-8350.

The cryptography workloads found within John The Ripper tend to favor AMD processors and with the A10-7850K APU this is no different. The AMD FX-8350 was still smashing the Intel competition -- even the i7 4770K -- while on the APU side we see just a 10% performance improvement with the A10-7850K over the A10-6800K. The A10-7850K for the Blowfish task was at least running 5% faster than the Core i5 4670.
