Now we are onto a few Steam Play benchmarks. For Steam Play, which is running Windows games on Linux via Wine/Proton, the packaged driver wasn't working with Proton 5.13. Thus for these tests are benchmarks of just Mesa 20.3-devel and Mesa 20.2.

The Strange Brigade performance for the Radeon RX 6800 was higher with Mesa 20.2, presumably again due to the CS issue in that patch having not landed in Mesa 20.3-devel as of writing. For the RX 6800 XT the performance was similar. Additional Steam Play titles later in the article when comparing to NVIDIA.

If taking the geometric mean of all these GPU/driver benchmarks across the tested graphics cards, using Mesa 20.3/20.2 + Linux 5.10 on the newer graphics cards was generally the fastest option. This was also observed for the earlier Navi and Vega graphics cards. Switching from AMDGPU-PRO to the Mesa 20.3 configuration yielded about 8% higher performance from swapping out the driver configuration. The Radeon RX 6800 saw the best performance with Mesa 20.2.
