AMD vs. NVIDIA Vulkan & OpenGL Linux Performance With The New Drivers
Now here's some common OpenGL benchmarks just for seeing how the three Radeon graphics cards atop the PRO driver stack with AMDGPU kernel driver are comparing to the GeForce GTX 900 line-up with the newest 364 beta driver.
The AMD hardware does appear to be more competitive now than in some of our past Linux driver comparisons, at least for select titles.
The results are interesting but there's still more work to be done on the AMD side and their developers have confirmed via our forums they haven't done much yet in the way of optimization work for OpenGL atop AMDGPU due to being focused on the Vulkan bring-up.
Xonotic has long been rather favorable on the Catalyst/Radeon Software Linux driver and it remains that way today.
Well, that's it for the tests I've been able to do so far from yesterdays' 364.12 NVIDIA beta driver and Friday's AMD GPU-PRO Linux driver beta. Stay tuned for more tests to come; if you'd like to help support the testing and ensure more interesting articles in the future and be able to test on more (Radeon) graphics cards, please consider joining Phoronix Premium.
