With the NAMD molecular dynamics simulator it scales very efficiently and indeed this 2P EPYC server was able to deliver twice the performance of the EPYC 7601 1P configuration.

John The Ripper also runs well at 128 threads and in this case my top-end dual Xeon Gold 6138 server with 40-cores / 80-threads only comes out slightly ahead of the 32-core / 64-thread EPYC 7601 on Ubuntu 18.10.

7-Zip was one of the rare tests where the dual Xeon Gold 6138 configuration was competing with the dual EPYC 7601 server.

Most of the time the dual Xeon Gold 6138 Tyan server was running just slightly ahead of the single EPYC 7601.
