Bare Metal Benchmarking Alpine Linux 3.11 Against Ubuntu 19.10 + Clear Linux
In the storage focused tests, Alpine Linux was losing out to Clear Linux and Ubuntu even though all three were on EXT4. Clear Linux is the only one defaulting to MQ-Deadline for NVMe SSD storage while the other two do not use an I/O scheduler in this condition.
In the compute tests, the results between this Linux distribution three-way comparison were more mixed. Alpine did pick up several wins, but it was far from being dominant compared to Intel's performance optimized Clear Linux or the popular Ubuntu in this Core i9 bare metal comparison.
