In the lower right hand corner of the motherboard are six Serial ATA 2.0 ports -- four from the SB600 and two from a separate ASIC -- and two USB 2.0 headers and the CMOS battery. Present in this area is also an iTE IT8718 Super I/O ASIC, which is supported by LM-Sensors on Linux.

The expansion slots on the Gigabyte MA790FX-DS5 include three PCI Express x1, two PCI Express x16, and two PCI slots. The two PCI Express x16 slots operate with full PCI-E x16 lanes and like the Intel X38, are PCI Express 2.0 compliant. These two PCI Express x16 slots support ATI's CrossFireX Technology. At the very bottom edge of the motherboard is a 4-pin molex connector, which is required if using two graphics cards with an older power supply. Some of the ASICs on this end of the motherboard include a Texas Instruments TSB43AB23 IEEE-1394, Realtek ALC889A audio, and Realtek 8111B Gigabit networking. In the corner of the PCB is an IEEE-1394 Firewire header.
