In the end, we had no problems pushing the ASUS EN8600GT 256MB OC Gear graphics card to 640MHz for its GPU and 1010MHz for the memory clock.

During our testing, the GPU die temperature (as reported by nvidia-settings) would idle about 44C and max out at just over 50C.

For looking at the performance of the ASUS EN8600GT 256MB graphics card, we had compared it to the previously reviewed Gigabyte 8600GT 256MB graphics card. We had then also tested the ASUS EN8600GT 256MB when it was clocked at 620/880MHz. On the ATI side for comparison we had used an ATI Radeon X1950PRO 256MB, ASUS HD 2600PRO 256MB, and a Sapphire HD 2900XT 512MB. Benchmarks were run under Linux with the 2.6.22.9 kernel on Fedora 7 and included Quake 4 and Enemy Territory: Quake Wars, which both have native Linux clients. The ATI cards were not tested under Quake 4 due to issues with the fglrx driver. Other system hardware consisted of dual Intel Xeon E5320 Quad-Core processors, 4GB of DDR2-533 FB-DIMMs, 300GB Seagate Serial ATA 2.0 hard drive, OCZ 750W power supply, and a Tyan Tempest i5000XT motherboard.
