The Intel Celeron D (Socket 478) results have been updated. We paired the Celeron D up with a Speeze CopperSnake III (EE475B13), to help alleviate some of the heat troubles we faced when the processor was initially tested. In addition, we've changed around some of the hardware and software configurations, to reflect the latest Linux advancements, as we had previously faced hardware incompatibilities with this testbed when running Linux.

We paired the Celeron D up with a Speeze CopperSnake III (EE475B13), to help alleviate some of the heat troubles we faced when the processor was initially tested. In addition, we've changed around some of the hardware and software configuration, to reflect the latest Linux advancements, as we had previously faced hardware incompatibilities with this testbed when running Linux. For comparison purposes, we also tested an Intel Pentium 4 2.4C processor using the same Speeze heatsink. During the testing of the Pentium 4, we ran all of the benchmarks with the standard non-SMP Linux kernel (2.6.11-1.14) and the 2.6.11-1.14 SMP (Symmetric Multi-Processing) kernel, as the Pentium 4 C processors feature Hyper-Threading technology. The testbed used in this review, was comprised of the following components:

To see how well a Celeron D could fair against a Intel Pentium 4 2.4C, we ran Blue Sail Vector Scalar Product, Blue Sail Sparse-Vector Scalar Product, Blue Sail Singular Value Decomposition, and glxgears. In addition, we measured the time it took to compile LAME (3.96.1), LAME encoding, tar archiving/extraction of an ISO file, and Apache Benchmark.
