Tagan ITZ 1300W & Thermaltake ToughPower 1200W

That being said, we've had enough of being distracted by the shiny casing and fancy cabling. Any company can make a shiny case. Any company can pay ABS for endorsement. The most important components of a power supply are the components inside. So as always, we cracked the baby open. Tagan made it easy on us. There were only four screws to remove and the cover was free from the unit.

True to Tagan tradition, it's a Topower. What does that mean? All that means is that this unit could be anywhere from acceptable to excellent. We also noticed that this unit only had 92A on the +12V rail. While this is a lot, it doesn't match up to the 1200W Thermaltake Toughpower which has 112A on the +12V rail. A little research revealed that this unit is actually a 1200W Topower re-branded as 1300W. There may have been a little modding that makes this a 1300W, but regardless we still see this as a 1200W. Adding a random 100W on it doesn't make sense until you read the Tagan website. It says "With Industry's First 1300W of true power.” Now it makes sense. The power supply industry has always lacked an accurate ratings system. But that's a different issue.

In any case, the layout is very clean. The unit features a push-pull ventilation system with two radial heatsinks lined up to the fans. It seems that this should be a very effective cooling setup. How quiet it will be is yet to be seen.
