Linux DDR3 Synthetic Benchmarks
While these RAMspeed results show the DDR3 SDRAM performing much faster than DDR2, these results are synthetic. In upcoming articles we will be looking specifically at the DDR3 real-world performance in different Linux environments. It is also important to keep in mind that DDR3 does contain other benefits when it comes to the reduced power consumption, improved thermal design, and higher bandwidth potential through an 8-bit deep pre-fetch buffer. However, it does cost a premium right now. The OCZ OCZ3G13332GK DDR3 2GB kit current retails for over $400 USD, but as DDR3 was just introduced with the Intel P35 Chipset and AMD won't be adopting DDR3 until next year, the prices will eventually drop.
