Out of 142 tests ran between Windows 10 and Ubuntu 21.04 on this Lenovo IdeaPad 3 with Ryzen 5 5500U, Ubuntu came out in front about 63% of the time.

If taking the geometric mean of those 142 results, Ubuntu 21.04 was faster by under 3% overall. Much slimmer margins than on the higher-end desktop/server systems where Linux tends to have more commanding leads but still for some heavy workloads Ubuntu was showing its muscle on this sub-$500 laptop.

Ubuntu 21.04 and other Linux distributions continue working out fairly well with the Ryzen 5 5500U / Lenovo IdeaPad 3 15. Not a bad 6 core / 12 thread laptop at all for $450 USD, if the 8GB RAM is enough for you.
