Conclusion:

Every time when we finish reviewing a motherboard, or any hardware component for that matter, we either feel the product was exceptional in nearly all aspects or the product was a rather a mixed bag (it offered several strong points where as with other areas the manufacturer has a great deal to improve), or the final area when we finish testing a product that it was such a appalling ordeal that we rather not deal with the product again. When it comes down to it, the ASUS P5LD2 Deluxe WiFi+TV truly fit into the first category. Although the P5LD2 features the Intel i945P Chipset rather than the flagship i955X, its Pentium D performance was competitive to that of the Abit AW8. On the single-core side of things, the ASUS motherboard generally outperformed the ASRock motherboard, but still gave it a good run for its money considering the VIA Linux support available. Recapping our benchmarks, in nearly all of the tests both motherboards performed almost equal, however, due to some Ubuntu ASRock conflicts the Doom 3 performance for the 775-Dual880 was below standards also taking into effect that the ASRock PCI Express actually runs at PCI-E x4 speeds. Nevertheless, the P5LD2 Deluxe experienced a few incompatibility problems with Linux and the 2.6.12 kernel that we had mentioned in the performance section of this article. Looking at the ASUS P5LD2 Deluxe WiFi+TV motherboard, we appreciated the great deal of ASUS additions with everything from the second SATA and IDE controllers, 802.11g and TV tuner support, and Stack Cool 2, among all of the other various features and changes. To sum things up, this is yet another great motherboard from the engineers at ASUS, with its main-stream target and flood of features and phenomenal overclocking ability we can't help but to award the ASUS P5LD2 Deluxe WiFi+TV the Phoronix Editor's Choice Award. Once again, many thanks go out to ASUS for including Linux drivers on their CDs and we hope to be delivering additional Linux testing on other ASUS products in the coming weeks and months.
