AMD Ryzen 7 Performance On Windows 10, Windows Server 2016, Six Linux Distributions

We're starting tests off today with some I/O / disk benchmarks across the tested platforms....

Interestingly Windows Server 2016 was much faster than Windows 10 Professional, even with Windows Defender disabled. The Windows Server 2016 performance was nearly to the speed of the Linux distributions in SQLite while Windows 10 here was much slower. Of the Linux distributions, Clear Linux had a slight lead over the five other tested platforms.

While FIO was written with Linux in mind, FIO is natively supported on Windows. But here with random reads, the Windows 10 Pro performance is now faster than Windows Server but not nearly to the speeds of Linux.

The random write performance was much slower than these EXT4 Linux setups (or XFS in the case of CentOS 7 out-of-the-box).

When it comes to the cross-platform IOzone benchmark, the write performance in this large 8GB file write test was nearly the same between Windows and Linux while CentOS 7 with XFS notably delivered faster out-of-the-box performance.
