Windows 10 vs. Ubuntu Linux With Radeon / GeForce GPUs On The Latest 2018 Drivers
Unigine Heaven was much faster on Linux with AMDGPU+RadeonSI than on Radeon Software Adrenalin under Windows. With the two tested NVIDIA graphics cards meanwhile their performance was effectively identical between operating systems.
With the newer Unigine Superposition benchmark it was also a case of much better Radeon OpenGL performance on Linux while the NVIDIA driver performed about the same between operating systems.
This isn't too surprising with the NVIDIA driver stack largely being shared across platforms leading to similar results. On the Radeon side, the RadeonSI Gallium3D driver has been making great strides the past year with OpenGL performance while similarly we have seen it outperform the AMDGPU-PRO OpenGL driver.
With Unigine Valley, the GTX 1080 Ti performance dropped slightly under Linux.
