30-Way Ubuntu 14.04 AMD / NVIDIA Linux Graphics Card Comparison

First up was Unigine Sanctuary... The results are as expected given other recent Phoronix articles. Worth pointing out is that the AMD Radeon R9 290 "Hawaii" graphics card remains slower on Linux with the Catalyst driver with it even running slower than the GeForce GTX 680 and just a little ahead of the GeForce GTX 760. The GeForce GTX 780 Ti remains the fastest OpenGL graphics card with the best binary drivers for Linux systems. As I've written in several articles now, the GeForce GTX 750 "Maxwell" series is great for those concerned about power efficiency or mid-range performance.

It's too bad we have only a limited number of AMD Radeon GPUs available to us from recent generations, but hopefully that will improve in the near-term. For those wondering about our Linux OpenGL benchmark selection, see Running Benchmarks On Other New Linux Games.

On the NVIDIA side, the GeForce GTX 650 (and GTX 460) and above were able to push above 60 FPS with Unigine Tropics at 1920 x 1080 while on the NVIDIA side it was with the Radeon HD 5830/6870 and above.
