Ubuntu 12.10 Virtualization vs. Ubuntu 12.04 LTS, CentOS 6.3
For the SciMark2 FFT test, Ubuntu 12.10 was the fastest operating system when comparing the bare metal results, but with KVM virtualization its performance fell to last place.
Ubuntu 12.10 came up short of its LTS predecessor when it came to the TTSIOD Renderer on the bare metal host, but atop KVM the performance was tied between the two Ubuntu Linux releases of the year.
Ubuntu 12.10 was the definite winner for C-Ray, but that came down to the GCC 4.7 compiler being much faster than earlier GCC releases for this multi-threaded ray-tracer.
