Xonotic is doing much better on the latest Ubuntu 16.04 development release.

The synthetic GpuTest results do show that there are still some more performance improvements that will become visible with Ubuntu 16.04 LTS if you are upgrading from an older LTS release. But again, don't expect any miracles as the R600g driver is largely in a mature state and not seeing too much feature development these days.
