Ubuntu 19.04 Is Offering Some Performance Improvements Over Ubuntu 18.10, Comparison To Clear Linux
Depending upon your games/applications, the upgraded kernel and Mesa can pay off in Ubuntu 19.04 particularly for newer Vulkan Steam games but also in some OpenGL workloads compared to what has shipped in Ubuntu 18.10. Intel Gen9 graphics meanwhile are pretty much mature at this point with little performance changes these days.
Lastly is a look at the geometric mean for the dozens of tests carried out on the three operating systems across the laptops and desktops. The Dell XPS laptop saw about 7% better performance on average over Ubuntu 18.10 while the Core i9 9900K desktop/workstation saw about an 8% rise in performance. But with the Clear Linux reference numbers, it shows there still is a lot of potential for Ubuntu to offer even better performance.
Stay tuned for more Ubuntu 19.04 benchmarks as its release approaches in April.
