Ubuntu 16.04 vs. 18.04 Performance On Six Systems
Here are some I/O benchmarks
The SQLite performance was the same on most systems except for seeing significant performance improvements on the Core i7 8700K and Ryzen 7 2700X systems.
The FIO results were also mostly the same except for much faster I/O performance on the Core i7 8700K and Ryzen 7 2700X boxes still. The EPYC 7601 I/O tests were left out since it was experiencing some high variability in these I/O results while in the other workloads was performing as expected.
The CompileBench results were largely the same except for the Ryzen 7 2700X with the AMD X470 motherboard continuing to run much better under the newer Ubuntu 18.04 LTS rather than 16.04. Not too surprising though with Zen+ / X470 and even the original Zen still being a very new micro-architecture with maturing Linux support.
