Within the FS-Mark open-source disk benchmark, the Seagate 1TB SSHD was well ahead of the old SATA 2.0 Western Digital and Seagate HDDs that were in this comparison, but it still was no match to the SSDs. Even the old OCZ Vertex 2 SATA 2.0 Solid-State Drive was much faster than the SATA 3.0 SSHD with its 1TB of storage but its 8GB MLC flash capacity.

The Seagate ST1000DX001-1CM drive did much better than the older SATA HDDs. While its performance isn't as fast as the solid-state drives, at least one terabyte of storage is obtainable for less than $100 USD.
