AMD Ryzen 7 3700X + Ryzen 9 3900X Offer Incredible Linux Performance But With A Big Caveat
Kicking things off with Intel's own (Intel optimized) SVT video encoders, the Ryzen 7 3700X comes tied with the Core i9 9900K after seeing a 35% improvement in performance compared to the Ryzen 7 2700X. The Ryzen 9 3900X meanwhile almost matched the Core i9 7960X.
There were also significant gains to find with the Intel SVT-HEVC video encode performance.
Even with the VP9 video encoder, the Ryzen 9 3900X was able to break past the Core i9 7960X.
With Google's libvpx VP9 video encoder, the Ryzen 9 3900X was able to match the Threadripper 2950X but the Core i9 9900K and Core i9 7960X delivered the best performance.
Context switching time remains much faster on AMD CPUs than Intel following all the CPU vulnerability mitigations to date. But between Zen 2 and Zen/Zen+, there wasn't a measurable difference with ctx_clock.
