Red Hat Enterprise 6.2 vs. Ubuntu 12.04 LTS

The Apache web-server was much faster with Ubuntu 12.04 LTS than Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6.2 for this very simple static web-server test profile.

For the NAS Parallel Benchmarks, the newer GCC 4.6 with Ubuntu 12.04 LTS appeared to be at an advantage for these multi-threaded Fortran-written tests by NASA.

At least for these three basic test systems, there is not a huge performance difference between Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6.2 and Ubuntu 12.04 LTS. Stay tuned for more tests as the official release of the Precise Pangolin nears, including benchmarks from Amazon's cloud and other areas.
