The Blowfish performance in John The Ripper has also received a nice boost using any of the new Linux distributions.

Using NASA's NAS Parallel Benchmarks that are written in Fortran, the performance of Ubuntu 10.04 LTS, Fedora 12, and Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6.0 Beta were all less than where CentOS 5.4 had performed when using the FT.B test.

With the IS.C test, Ubuntu 10.04 LTS was the fastest while the results were closer between the other Linux releases.

The UA.A results in this test from NASA are similar to FT.B where the more mature CentOS 5.4 was the winner.
